Garden-Bot: 3D Model

A study in 3D product design, creating a high-fidelity character/mascot that bridges the gap between character artistry and functional modeling. By combining hard-surface modeling with organic textures, I developed a 'sleek yet robust' garden helper optimized for multichannel brand experiences, ready for everything from static editorial layouts to complex motion and interactive environments.

Built over a three-week timeline, this project showcases my ability to design products that are as technically sound as they are visually playful and engaging.

Project Type:

Hard Surface Modeling, Product Design

Role:

Product Designer, 3D Artist

Tools:

Procreate, Cinema4D, Adobe Substance Painter

Timeline:

3 weeks

01

The Assignment

Created as a hard-surface modeling study, Garden-Bot is a high-fidelity 3D brand mascot designed to bridge the gap between character artistry and product utility.

  • The Brief: Design an "all-in-one" garden helper equipped with integrated tools for planting, watering, and pruning.

  • The Goal: Develop a sleek, robust character capable of functioning as a primary visual asset across various media.

02

My Approach

I used a professional workflow to move from a basic 3D mesh to a fully textured and lit character. As I progressed in designing and creating my mesh, the model shifted from a generic robot to a unique gardening buddy, ready for rigging and animation.

  • Texturing: I created three different material sets in Substance Painter to find the right balance between "clean" and "weathered".

  • Lighting: I set up a 3-point lighting rig and backdrop to show off the model's depth and surface details.

03

Results & Takeaways

After three weeks of development, I delivered a high-quality 3D asset that is ready to be rigged for motion or used in digital campaigns.

  • Technical Quality: The model features clean topology and high-res textures, making it scaleable for anything from social posts to mascots .

  • Efficiency: I hit a professional 3-week deadline while managing the entire pipeline from concept to final render.
